A Message From The Principal | MR. T.S. REDDY

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Learners

It is hard to conceive just how quickly the 2023 academic year has come to a close. The return of all events and an uninterrupted academic and extra-mural program this year amplified the importance of connection and interaction to the well-being of all stakeholders in our school community.

Our girls shone brightly both, in the Academic program and the Extra-mural program. The achievers were awarded at 2 separate functions, with the Sport and Cultural Awards held in October and the Academic Awards Assembly held on the 12th of December. May I extend my congratulations to all our girls on their efforts this year, as they continued to represent themselves, their families, and their school with distinction.

There are so many people who need to be acknowledged for making this school year a success. Our management, educators, administration, finance, and support staff have all gone beyond the call of duty to find ways to deliver our curriculum the supporting infrastructure, and various services to our learners and our parents. It has not been easy by any means. They have worked extraordinarily hard to offer the solutions needed to ensure that we continue the tradition of NGHS being a school of excellence.

Our School Governing Body has been exceptional in its guidance and much-needed support this year. At our Annual General Meeting held last month, we were able to present a sound set of financials due to careful financial management and planning. We are proud to announce that the school fees for 2024 have been capped at a minimal percentage increase.

Our Grade 12s completed their examinations on the 01st of December and it’s not long before they venture into the next chapter of their lives. I am confident that they will make us all proud with their excellent results and wish them a well-earned holiday. The grade 12 results will be available on the 19th of January 2024, on various media platforms and at school from 11 am.

We wish all our NGHS families a peaceful and blessed festive season and look forward to welcoming you back to school for the 2024 academic year.

God Bless and Keep Safe!
Mr. T.S. Reddy

A Message From The Counselling Department

Term 4 kicked off with the commemoration of Mental Health Month in October 2023. On Friday, 13 October, a Special Mental Health Assembly was arranged with poetry, song, and a message from our very own Ms Lahner. On Wednesday 25 October 2023, Mr Keegan O’Connell (Mental Health Activist and Author of ‘A Combustible Life’) had an interactive talk with our learners on Mental Health Awareness. Keegan shared his own experience in managing Depression. Our Media Centre initiative was cut-out pink hearts, which were filled with positive messages from learners to encourage others. The emphasis was on Kindness being an Intentional Act.

Some other Highlights of the term were as follows:

  • Some of our learners who signed up for GIRLCAD hosted by UKZN and SAIMechE Student Chapter attended three Sessions in September 2023. These sessions were held at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal. GIRLCAD is a workshop that focuses on software drawing skills. The aim is to promote STEM among women and to prepare them for first-year engineering modules. Learners who completed the course received a certificate of completion. Tarryn Ngubane and Dristhi Rajcoomar (Grade 10) were two of these learners
  • On 4 October (during the September/October Holiday), two learners - Aditiya Leigh Pillay and Nkumbuso Khanyile from Grade 11, signed up for the Ernest and Young Work Experience Programme. The aim was to expose students to the world of work, the company, and the accounting profession. Learners found this experience valuable
  • On Saturday, 21 October 2023, Beroli Otu (Grade 11), Tarryn Ngubane, and Nkazimulo Mbatha (Grade 10) were our Ambassadors at #IT MATTERS girl.talk@dgc2024. This one-day- girls-only conference focused on IT and Technology. It was an amazing experience and well-received by our learners

The focus in Term 4 is the preparation and writing of Final Exams and there is generally much anxiety during this time. Learners are encouraged to work consistently in the year, set (SMART) goals for themselves and stay focused on academics. At the same time, there has to be a balance and learners mustn't be under so much pressure to perform, that they do not have time to engage in sport or a hobby and have family time. We hope that learners take the time to rest, relax, and recharge this holiday. We hope the New Year will begin with a positive mindset, fresh hope, and a vision to carry everyone through to a successful 2024.
